The Redlands-Bayside Men's Support Group has been operating for around two and a half years meeting fortnightly in Capalaba, Brisbane. The meetings have been for men to discuss issues, support one another, seek help in a crisis or just socialise.
The group, with its focus on men looking after themselves first, has been very successful albeit on a small scale. Many men have discovered new strength to cope with their individual situations just by coming along and finding that most of us are or have been faced with similar situations. Group therapy is a wonderful thing!
The group has recently decided to take the plunge and expand to a professionally run Men's Centre from which a variety of services for men and boys will be available. The group has been incorporated as the MEN'S SUPPORT SERVICES QLD. INC. REDLANDS BAYSIDE BRANCH and the new management committee has been busy seeking funding and sponsorship from State & Local Government, community organisations and local businesses. So far, the responses have been positive and encouraging. Although there are many hurdles to yet to be jumped we hope to have our centre open in the not-too-distant future.
